Legacy of Power

Legacy of Power is one of the projects celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Germany.The April 2023 Film/Video class research visit to Rome.

The video was inspired by the monumental sculpture that adorns the left side of the double staircase in front of the entrance to the Palazzo Senatorio in Rome, which was carried from the Tempio di Serapide by Michelangelo in the 16th century. The sculpture depicts the Nile prophecy, with a stocky adult male holding a treasure bowl and leaning on a sphinx.
The city of Rome is home to a wide variety of monuments, including eight Egyptian obelisks out of only 29 in the world. They symbolize the power and conquest of Rome.

Throughout history, humans have tirelessly built these artifacts over and over again, and the artist used this as inspiration to create a video poem using AI to commemorate the rise and fall of power sculptures.
